Now There You Go

the other day i did something very very dumb.

i introduced the boys to peanut butter jelly time.

it started when a buddy and i were talking at work about family guy - which lead to him mentioning how funny it was when brian decided to reenact peanut butter jelly time to cheer peter up. (not one of my favorite moments, but funny enough, i guess.) ok...that, in turn, lead to me thinking, later that day, 'you know what? the original peanut butter jelly time is just catchy enough and dumb enough to get a nice laugh out of my kids.'

when i got home that night, i rigged my iSight to capture the look on ab's face the first time he saw the idiotic dancing banana on my monitor. as i suspected, he dug it from minute one.

jb got his own private showing - minus the camera - and enjoyed it just as much.

unfortunately, ever since that night, i've caught them humming the melody or repeating 'peanut butter jelly time...peanut butter jelly time...peanut butter jelly time...' almost silently under their breath as they play with lego or read or do a puzzle or whatever. it's very frightening.

luckily, today i found monk-e-mail and have tried to wash the pb & j out of their mind by letting them record their own messages to be acted out by a chimp. it seems to be working pretty well - but i'll let you judge for yourself.

that said, i have two messages for you. one from ab, one from jb.

Brilliant. But if you want to scrub peanut-butter jelly time from the Kids' minds, I suggest a certain hippopatumus w/ noodles on his back. I'm a fan of the harmonizing bird. They're gonna go apeshit.

Peanut Butter Jelly time was something i sent you way before the metz. how about a little credit?

fair enough.

for the record, the very powerful and connected mr vedula forwarded the offending banana many many months ago. he put it on my radar long before family guy co-opted it.

the question is, why the fuck would anyone want credit for anything having to do with peanut butter jelly time?

and WHERE'S MY AUTOGRAPHED PICTURE OF THE HONORABLE GENTLEMAN FROM MISSOURI?!

yeah, how d'you like THAT SHIT?!
